March 2015 - Meetings

Tue 31st MarBarbate Marismas:- Awaiting Report
Tue 24th MarSanlucar:- Seven hardy snappers set off from a very wet Chiclana for the coastal resort of Sanlucar.
On arrival the rain had eased considerably & after an enjoyable mandatory coffee & toast, along with plenty of chat regarding
ISO's & Aperture settings we set off into the town centre with an agreed theme of reflections to work around.
The rain meant pavements & tables were wet giving lots of opportunity for theme shots & the presence of colourful umbrellas
added interest. An extra bonus was finding orange blossom blooming in the town centre giving hope for the upcoming competition.
After a couple of hours & during another pit stop for drinks we agreed that a return visit later in the summer to explore more of the town center would be worthwhile.

December 2014 - Meetings

Tue 30th Dec*** Christmas Break ***
Tue 23rd Dec*** Christmas Break ***
Tue 16th Dec*** Christmas Break ***
Tues 9th Dec*** Christmas Break ***
Tue 2nd DecChiclana:-  An evening outing to capture the much improved Christmas lights on offer in the town this year. Probably the most spectacular item being the giant cone on the roundabout just after the bridge across the river from the bus station. A nice surprise awaited us at our coffee break in the middle of town, as we were treated to some live latin american dancing as it seems a local dance school use the venue for their weekly lessons.

November 2014 - Meetings

Tue 25th NovAlgeciras:- Awaiting Report
Tue 18th NovBolonia - To see the Vultures massing to migrate:-  Awaiting Report
Wed 12th NovLa Barrosa Beach:- A change of day and time this week, to hopefully take some sunset shots at the beach. The sun did oblige to a certain extent, but anyway it made a change and gave us some time to discuss the recent competition results.
Tue 4th NovChipiona:- Today was quite a challenge just to stand still long enough to compose a shot as it was very windy. The town itself seemed to have more or less shut down for the winter and we struggled even to find a venta that was open for our coffee break. The bad weather did make for some interesting sea shots as the sea was very rough, and we had to keep dodging the waves which kept splashing on the promenade.

October 2014 - Meetings

Tue 28th OctSantuario de los Santos:-  This Sanctaury / retreat is situated a couple of kilometres off the A381 near Benelup, which nowadays seems to be used by the locals as a place of quiet contemplation to remember loved ones who have sadly passed away. In fact the walls a covered with pictures painted by the relatives depicting scenes relevant of their relatives demise. Photographically the inside of the chapel is difficult because of the low light conditions, which gave us a chance to try long time exposure shots.
Tue 21st OctJerez Zoo:-  A last chance to get those important shots for the October competition "Close up on nature".  Quite a challenging experience as for obvious reasons most of the animals are behind either wire netting or glass. There were however a few places where we could get clear shots!!
Tue 14th OctCadiz:- A visit to check on how they are getting on with the new suspension bridge and link road from Puerto Real to Cadiz.  Progress still continuing at a snails pace though at least the suspension cables are all now in place. We also had a wander round parts of the city we hadn't been to before including a couple of pleasant parks and the sea front promenade round that area which is also very nice.
Tue 7th OctVejer:- Although we have been many times to Vejer we always seem to find something new. We had heard that the para gliders take off from a point high in the hills above Vejer and decided to try and find them. After heading out of the town on the back road, we eventually found a small track leading up to the top of the hill. We were in luck, there were several para gliders around and there was some good shots to be had of them attempting and even succeeding in taking off.

September 2014 - Meetings

Tue 30th SepLebrija:- Awaiting Report
Tue 23rd SepJerez:-  A visit to the Palacio-del-Tiempo the "Palace of time" where there was over 300 clocks and watches mainly French and British in origin dating back up to 17th Century. Very interesting but challenging from a photographic point of view due to the low lighting in the museum.
Tue 16th SepConil:- The theme for todays outing to Conil was "happy". We started by visiting the old Tuna processing area of Conil where there is a small museum. When we moved on for coffee the weather had become a bit overcast so after sitting at the venta for coffee for about half an hour we had still not seen many happy people to shoot.
Tue 9th SepBreakfast meeting at Yvonne's:- After tea/coffee and home made bread and marmalade, we had a wander round Yvonne's garden which had loads of insects in it on which to practice our macro expertise, including a very rare spider and  a praying mantis type insect that appeared to giving birth to a chrysalis. (were still not sure what that was all about, but it was very interesting.)

Tue 22nd JulAn Evening in Cadiz:- Awaiting Report
Tue 15th JulDay out at Gibraltar:- Awaiting report
Tue 8th JulRiver walk down at Conil ( Roche) Harbour:-  Following a wander around the harbour photographing incoming fishing boats, their catches & the crews repairing nets we moved out to the river estuary and explored the river bank back towards Roche for a few hundred metres. The river is free flowing and clean with some bank areas populated with Fidler crabs.
All agreed a good location for an extended early morning walk for another day. Watch this space.
Tue 1st JulA trip to photograph the sunflowers near Pago:-  Following the unusual cancellation of this outing the previous week normal service was resumed with a bright sunny morning. A short trip out to Venta la Reya to a huge field of sunflowers where each member steadily came to grips with the brightness and took pictures from every angle, from close up to wide angle landscapes. Rounding up the team from deep inside the field took a while  such was the wanderlust effect of moving from one specimen to the next!

June 2014 - Meetings

Tue 24th JunPago de Humo:- A trip to photograph the sunflowers near Pago - This meeting was unfortunately Rained off!
Tue 17th JunRota:-  Often overshadowed by the huge NATO base on its doorstep this town still has a lot to offer, with amongst other things a restored castle which now serves as a department of the town hall.  We were able to blag a guided tour to areas of the building not usually available to visitors and the decor in some of the rooms was exquisite. The theme for this weeks outing was doors, windows and arches, and there was plenty of these to capture in the narrow streets round the town.
Tue 10th JunLebrija:- I think we were all pleasantly surprised by this small town situated approximately half way between Jerez and Seville. There was plenty to see and photograph and we also had the theme of Alphabet for this week, which gave the day out more of a challenge than usual.

Tue 27th MayVejer:- Organsied visit round the courtyard gardens of Vejer -  Awaiting Report
Tue 20th MayBarbate:- A trip to the bustling town of Barbate down the coast from Vejer,  we stopped at the main square where the Jacaranda trees were in full bloom and added a splash of colour to the church and fountain in the background. Then on to the market where we had a coffee outside in the busy street, and finally to the fishing port where the fishermen were busy sorting their nets and doing running repairs to their boats.
Tue 13th MayEl Puerto de Santa Maria:- -  A different day out catching the train from Bahia Sur to Cadiz and then getting the ferry to El Puerto de Santa Maria. after strolling  round the old town and visiting the impressive bullring we had tapas at a very picturesque venta, before catching the train back to Bahia Sur.
Tue 6th MayConil:- Trip to photograph wild flowers but infortumately these were conspicuous by there absence, so we moved on to a venta at El Palmar for breakfast

Tue/Wed 29th/30th AprButterfly Park - Benalmadena:-  - Awaiting report
Tue 22nd AprMedina Sidonia and Nearby Hermitage:-  A visit to Medina Sidonia primarily to meet a potential new club member, with a guided visit to the nearby Santos Mártires Hermitage which is the oldest example of Visigoth art in Andalucia.
The Hermitage is only open to the public by appointment and we were shown round by the guardian of the Hermitage who was very thorough in explaining (in spanish) all the various artifacts and how the Hermitage had been modified by various civilisations over the past 1000 years or so.
Tue 15th AprPuerto Real:- Awaiting report
Tue 8th AprGill's leaving lunch at Conil:- Awaiting report
Tue 1st AprSeville:- Part one of Fran's schedule of interesting things to see in Seville, The most impressive of which was the so called 'Mushroom building' ,  a huge structure made mainly of wood over a 100 metres long and spanning a main road whith a surprising twist. From the ground it looks like climbing one of towers reveals just a small viewing platform, when in fact there is a complete walkway round the whole structure on top which is invisible from the ground together with a restaurant.  From this walkway a complete 360 degree panorama of Seville is revealed, very impressive.

March 2014 - Meetings

Tue 25th MarSancti Petri Marismas:- A visit to the marismas at Old Sancti Petri provided plenty of opportunities to capture the varieties bird life visiting there at the moment. From flocks of Flamingoes to small yellow finches (possibly). a few of us also tried to take shots of the fish that occasionally jumped completely out of the water, but found it pretty frustrating and nearly impossible.
Tue 18th MarMontenmedio:- The 'Sunshine Tour' at Monetenmedio is a show jumping mecca where riders and their horses come from all over the world to take advantage of the mild weather here in March for out of season training and competition.
There was plenty of opportunities for action shots in the various show jumping arena's plus scope for photo's of horses being groomed and loads of interesting tack shops.
Tue 11th MarArcos:- Famous Spanish white village.
Visited an unusual Nativity themed museum where traditional religious scenes were recreated in fanatasic detail in minature complete with lighting that was controlled to simulate a complete day in twenty minutes.
